On Sunday, starting from Hangzhou and returning the same day, my mom and I went on a one-day trip to Shanghai. The route we took was simple but included many attractions. We didn’t retrace our steps and aimed to have a great time while taking it easy. It’s of reference value.

We took the high-speed train from Hangzhou East Station to Shanghai. Arriving at Hongqiao Station at 9 am. We took the subway to our first stop, Wukang Mansion. Many people were taking pictures. We took the opportunity to snap a photo of mom. Mom was quite satisfied. It was beautiful.
After taking pictures, we had early lunch at Hanxiang Benbang Noodle Restaurant next to Wukang Mansion. It had an authentic Shanghai flavor. The price was a bit higher than ordinary noodle restaurants. We ordered relatively simple dishes. They were delicious. It cost 74 yuan.
After the meal, our second stop was Soong Ching-ling’s Former Residence in Shanghai. It was just a few minutes’ walk from Wukang Mansion. Mom really liked this place. The exhibition layout of the memorial hall was very reasonable and the content was rich. The main building and the small garden were elegant and secluded. There were many tourists, but the atmosphere in the museum was excellent.
Opposite Soong Ching-ling’s Former Residence, Dayin Bookstore was very beautiful and extremely photogenic. I took many pictures of mom here. Mom likes reading very much and has a special preference for bookstores.
Next, we walked along Huaihai Middle Road, taking pictures all the way. This street was extremely photogenic. We walked all the way to Shanghai Library.
After that, whether taking the subway or a bus, it was very convenient. Our third stop was Jing’an Temple. We could take pictures of Jing’an Temple from the overpass. The golden building was magnificent.
After leaving Jing’an Temple, we took the subway to our fourth stops, Yu Garden and Chenghuang Temple. Yu Garden is highly recommended for a visit! I have visited almost all the gardens in Jiangnan. Yu Garden has a style of “having surprises everywhere”. As for Chenghuang Temple, if time is limited, you can skip it. It’s not very large and is under renovation. There are many scaffolding and iron sheets.
Next, the biggest regret! Due to high tide, we couldn’t take the ferry and had to take a taxi. If the weather is good, everyone must take the ferry! Shanghai Ferry (Jinling East Road Station). Taking the ferry from the Bund to Lujiazui on the opposite side is cheap and fun.
Nearly at 5 pm, we arrived at Lujiazui. For dinner, we went to Don Quixote Spanish Restaurant & Pub (Lujiazui Binjiang Store). The decoration was very distinctive. The library and knight elements were very photogenic. The taste was good. Mom also thought it was delicious.
After the meal, at around 6 pm, we took a walk in Binjiang Park. The sunset was extremely beautiful. We took many pictures. Look at the penultimate picture!
At 7 pm, the lights on both sides of the Huangpu River were turned on. We took a taxi to our sixth stop, Waibaidu Bridge (yes, it’s the place where Yiping jumped into the river). The view of both sides of the Huangpu River was amazing! Look at the last picture.
Finally, we happily returned to Hangzhou. Mom is 56 years old. She didn’t feel tired on this route and was able to complete the trip easily. You can find a coffee shop to rest at any time during the journey! Don’t get too tired! Stopping and going is the essence of city walks! I hope everyone can take their parents and have a fulfilling and happy trip!
