Travel Tips:
- Fuzhou offers many free attractions, such as Pingtan Island, Gushan, West Lake Park, the Lin Zexu Memorial Hall, Sanfang Qixiang, and Haitan Ancient City. You can explore most of the city without spending much money.
- Fujian has many islands, but for a more affordable option where you can enjoy the sea, head to Pingtan Island, Dongshan Island, or Meizhou Island. These islands are truly beautiful.
- Fujian is great to visit year-round. In winter, explore the rich history and culture; in spring and summer, hit the beaches for some fun in the waves.
- Some people say Gulangyu Island in Xiamen is overrated, but it’s actually a very romantic and artistic place, especially if you appreciate its outdoor architecture museum.
- Xiamen University is stunning, so make sure to book your visit in advance to explore its campus.
- Wuyi Mountain is divided into southern and northern areas. If you only have one day, enter through the southern gate. Don’t miss the rafting experience and the “Impression Da Hong Pao” scenic area.
- Before hiking Mount Taima, make sure to rest well for a couple of days. The trail takes you through various cracks and gaps, and the trek can be quite exhausting.
- Dongshan Island’s Su Feng Mountain ring road is perfect for cycling, offering a romantic and healing half-sea, half-mountain atmosphere.
- The best time to see the “Blue Tears” phenomenon on Pingtan Island is from May to August. Check the weather beforehand as rainy days can ruin the experience.
- Fujian is known for its diverse and delicious snacks. If food is your main focus, head straight to Zhangzhou, where the flavors are the most authentic.
- Yongding Tulou offers a real-life version of the scenes from Big Fish & Begonia, with its large and small round and square earthen buildings, providing a truly stunning visual experience.
- If you only have two to three days, Quanzhou is a great choice. The sights are close together, prices are reasonable, and it’s a highly cost-effective option.
- Avoid Xunpu Village in Quanzhou unless you want to spend a lot on flower hairpin photo ops. It’s best to skip this tourist trap.
