NEW TOURISM DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR TUANBO HEALTH CITY IN TIANJIN (2024-2035): BUILDING A LEISURE, WELLNESS, AND CULTURAL DESTINATION

Plan Scope

The scope of the Tianjin Jinghai District Tuanbo Health City Tourism Special Plan (2024-2035) spans a total area of 211.37 square kilometers, with boundaries stretching from the Rongwu Expressway to the east, Tuanwang Line to the west, Jinshi Expressway to the south, and Duliu River to the north.

Spatial Structure

The spatial structure integrates a diverse range of tourism elements under a “One Lake, One Belt, Four Zones” concept, with Tuanbo Health City positioned as a hub for eco-tourism, leisure, wellness, cultural experiences, sports events, and business tourism:

  • “One Lake”
The lake itself and its central island form the core space. Around the lake, there will be a variety of eco-education facilities. Visitors can embark on eco-boat tours, observing the picturesque views on both shores, or head to the island to explore and learn about local wildlife, surrounded by nature and fresh air.
  • “One Belt”
This vibrant corridor encircling the lake will feature expansive scenic viewing platforms, walking and biking paths, and commercial areas with local food, cultural crafts, and shopping spots. It will allow tourists to appreciate the beauty of the lake from multiple vantage points, creating a harmonious blend of nature and modern comforts.
  • “Four Zones”
These four distinct areas each serve as anchors for Tuanbo Health City’s diverse tourism landscape:

    • Sports and Recreation Zone: Equipped with state-of-the-art sports facilities, various outdoor sports venues, and training centers, this zone is designed for both professional athletes and active visitors. Complemented by nearby dining and lodging, the zone is an ideal destination for sporting events, fitness activities, and outdoor adventures.
    • Wellness and Resort Zone: Leveraging the natural surroundings and medical facilities of Tuanbo Health City, this zone will include high-end wellness facilities offering comprehensive health screenings, effective rehabilitation treatments, and various wellness programs, ensuring visitors can rejuvenate both body and mind.
    • Creative Services Zone: This zone will be a hub for industrial innovation, combining the steel industry’s heritage with creative and sustainable development. Advanced technology and design will be integrated here to offer unique experiences, including steel culture exhibitions, creative design projects, and high-end business services, making it an eco-friendly, modern zone.
    • Cultural and Entertainment Zone: Packed with exciting attractions, this zone will cater to families, thrill-seekers, and culture enthusiasts alike. With a wide range of theme parks, cultural performances, hot springs, and themed events, it promises unforgettable experiences.

Tourism Routes

To make the area easy to navigate, the plan outlines a “1+6” tourism route structure, featuring a main shuttle line and six themed circuits:

  • Main Tourism Shuttle Line: The shuttle route starts from Tuanbo West Station, creating a continuous loop through key attractions, such as Guanghegu Resort, Samaranch Memorial, and Tuanbo Lake International Expo Park. This line ensures easy access for visitors to the area’s most prominent attractions.
  • Adventure and Sports Route: Connecting the western wetland areas, creative cultural resorts, water sports centers, and recreational spots around the lake, this route highlights opportunities for adventure sports and outdoor activities.
  • Entertainment Route: Featuring diverse entertainment facilities, the Entertainment Route will start from the Guanghegu Resort, passing various spots like the Rina Tuanbo Lake Recreation Expo, water-based attractions, music parks, and creative cultural camps, allowing visitors to experience everything from live music to thrilling rides.
  • Science and Education Route: This eco-friendly route will offer educational tours around the central island of Tuanbo Lake, combining natural beauty with interactive science-based experiences that foster a deeper understanding of local ecology.
  • Eco-Wellness Route: Focused on wellness, this route will include highlights like wetland healing programs, wellness centers, and natural medicine gardens, inviting visitors to enjoy therapeutic experiences and holistic wellness practices in scenic surroundings.
  • Industrial Heritage Route: Featuring Tuanbo Health City’s industrial heritage, this route will include stops at the Youfa Steel Pipe Creative Park and key industrial centers, blending industrial tourism with creative exhibitions. It will showcase the city’s steel production legacy while offering insights into modern sustainable development.

Priority Projects for 2024-2025

To capitalize on Tuanbo Lake’s natural, cultural, and industrial assets, the plan includes several projects set for immediate development:

  • Tuanbo Health City Lifestyle Port
    • Existing Facilities: The current commercial structures will be upgraded to create a vibrant center for sports, socializing, and shopping.
    • Main Features: The port will feature six key areas – sports, family-friendly activities, dining, entertainment, shopping, and lifestyle experiences.
  • Tianjin Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center
    • Mission: To care for injured, lost, or confiscated wild animals, as well as rehabilitate and release them. The center will also engage in educational initiatives to promote wildlife conservation.
  • Water Dock Network
    • Infrastructure: A series of 13 floating docks will provide water transport services for various boats, enhancing access to the lake and supporting eco-tourism.
    • Locations: Existing docks will be improved, and 10 new floating docks will be constructed across several areas.
  • Science Boat Tours
    • Route: The tours will be centered around the lake’s bird conservation areas, providing a blend of education and leisure with science-themed content, making it suitable for family visitors and researchers alike.
