Nanchang: A City of Romance and Faith

With plans to visit Changsha and Zhangjiajie in the next few days, I only have one day in Nanchang. The city is filled with delicious food and offers great prices. For those who love spicy food, don’t miss “Gan Cuisine”!

Travel Route: Arriving in Nanchang at midnight, I took the airport shuttle bus directly to the youth hostel for check-in.

Itinerary Starts:

  • Ride a shared electric bike to Da Shi Yuan ➡️ Tengwang Pavilion (10 min walk) ➡️ Wanshou Palace (17 min walk) ➡️ Jewelry Street (4 min walk) ➡️ August 1st Memorial Museum (40 min by subway) ➡️ August 1st Square (40 min by subway) ➡️ Jiangxi Provincial Art Museum (10 min walk) ➡️ Return to rest.

Accommodation Recommendations: Near August 1st Square or Wanshou Palace.

Attraction Recommendations: 1️⃣ Da Shi Yuan: A local snack street with various breakfast options. You must try a bowl of mixed noodles here!

2️⃣ Tengwang Pavilion: Daytime ticket costs 50 RMB, while nighttime entry is 158 RMB. Visit during the day to enjoy the breeze from the Gan River.

3️⃣ Wanshou Palace: You can explore the Daoist temple during the day. In the evening, it gets crowded, but you can catch performances at Jiangxi Kun Tea House below. The alley is perfect for photos, especially the flower wall landmark (navigate to Wanshou Palace Art Museum).

4️⃣ Jewelry Street: Full of local flavor, a must-visit for food lovers!

  • Cao’s Green Bean Cake (tasty, but be prepared to wait; I queued for 40 minutes to buy one).
  • Hongdu Thumb (great value, the Snow Top Orchid drink is delicious!).
  • Xiao Deng Stinky Tofu (recommended by a friend; it’s a dry, deep-fried variant, different from that in Changsha but very tasty).

5️⃣ August 1st Memorial Museum: Witness the raising of the military flag, marking the beginning of the revolution. Reservations are required in advance via their official WeChat account, and entry is free.

6️⃣ Jiangxi Provincial Museum: Also requires advance reservation through their official WeChat account.

7️⃣ August 1st Square: It’s recommended to visit at night for a more beautiful view.

8️⃣ Jiangxi Provincial Art Museum: Free entry during the day with advance reservation; it’s a popular spot for night photography and check-ins.

You can see the entrance easily from the upper-level elevator on Line 1.
