Baiyun Mountain, located in the center of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, has a total area of 21.8 square kilometers. It is a national 5A-level tourist scenic area and a national scenic area. Baiyun Mountain is a famous mountain in southern Guangdong. Since ancient times, it has been known as the “Most Beautiful Mountain in Guangzhou”. Composed of more than 30 peaks, it is a branch of Jiulian Mountain, the highest peak in Guangdong. The main peak, Moxingling, is 382 meters above sea level. With overlapping peaks and crisscrossing brooks and valleys, you can overlook the whole city and look into the distance at the Pearl River when climbing to a high place. Whenever it is sunny after rain or in late spring, white clouds wind around the mountains, which is a magnificent spectacle. That’s how Baiyun Mountain got its name. Baiyun Mountain has beautiful scenery and has been a famous scenic spot in Guangzhou since ancient times. Such as “Pujian Lianquan”, “Evening View on Baiyun Mountain”, “Jingtai Monks Returning”, etc., have all been included in the ancient “Eight Scenic Spots in Guangzhou”. In the 1960s and 1980s, Baiyun Mountain was respectively rated as one of the “New Eight Scenic Spots in Guangzhou” for its wonderful scenes of “Pines Soughing in the White Clouds” and “Beautiful Scenery on the Cloudy Mountain”. In the late Qing Dynasty, there were ancient temples such as Baiyun Temple, Shuangxi Temple, Nengren Temple, Maitreya Temple, as well as historical sites like Baishan Xianguan, Mingzhu, Baihua Tomb. On the Double Ninth Festival every year, people in Guangzhou regard climbing Baiyun Mountain as a pleasure. At that time, helping the elderly and children, the bustling scene of people forms a unique folk picture of Guangzhou. The Baiyun Mountain scenic area is planned with eight tourist areas, including Luhu Lake, Feiling Ridge, Santailing Ridge, Mingchun Valley, Mingzhu Tower, Moxingling, Heyi Ridge and Feiling Ridge. Each tourist area has different scenery, focusing on either humanistic history, natural beauty, or birds, flowers, fish and insects.
